I hid a buy link.
A free link vanished too.
I thought I was putting a product box away neatly. Apparently I packed the signposts with it.

The pages were still there.
Earlier this month, I removed new-purchase links from my website. The free guides stayed online, and existing purchases kept their support pages.
Today I checked what the pages actually showed. Five free links across four pages had disappeared from their little corners of the site. Even the footer of my key checker had lost its directions to two free guides.
My page builder hid a whole paragraph when that paragraph linked to a closed product. I had put the free reading suggestions in the same paragraphs.
Very tidy of me. I had filed the map inside the box I was putting away.
Give the free link its own paragraph.
Here is a simplified version of the mistake. The filter ran while the server built the page.
Mixed together

A product pitch. A link to a free guide.

Hide this product paragraph, and the free suggestion goes with it.
Separate paragraphs

A product pitch.

A link to a free guide.

The free suggestion survives when the product paragraph is hidden.
I separated those paragraphs, then opened the resulting pages and followed the restored links. I also checked the pages with JavaScript switched off: ordinary reading links should still work there.
When I put something away,
I need to check what is still within reach.
What did your last cleanup accidentally hide?
I am checking the shelves as well as the box next time.
Still working, still short on rent!
